The Abortion Issue: Does the Bible support the right of a woman to choose? It does, but conditions apply.
To set the record straight right from the beginning, our Bible tells us that Children are a gift of God. Psalm 127:3 Behold, children are a gift of the Lord; The fruit of the womb is a reward. [NASB] As so many do in the case of Christ; they reject the gift of life from God, through the personal sacrifice of His Son, the incarnate Christ as payment for our sin debt, I can only imagine how hurt God is, when we reject another of His gifts, that of an innocent baby, whether out of apathy or simply convenience. Those with a pro-abortion mind-set immediately begin their tirade, “it isn’t even really a baby until it is actually out of the womb”. This of course disagrees with all that we know about the baby after conception and it disagrees with the Word of God. [13]You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother's womb. [14] Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—and how well I know it. [15] You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb. [16] You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. before a single day had passed. [NLT]
Of the incarnate Christ, Jeremiah 1:5 records these Spirit inspired words: "I knew you before I formed you in your mother's womb. Before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as my spokesman to the world." [NLT] Those who polarize themselves as pro-abortionist, like to use the term fetus instead of a baby, in a feeble attempt to distract attention away from a child that God is forming in the womb. Have you seen the radiology images of a fetus sucking its thumb? Others say that life really doesn’t begin until sometime after conception, depending on the point that they wish to emphasize or the product that they are promoting. The Biblical truth is that Life began in the beginning, not at conception. This is how we have inherited from Adam a human nature that is bent
on rebellion. It is passed down through the sperm cells which are *alive. Living Life is passed down from generation to generation it is not spontaneous.
*Cloning is proof of this. An egg or a sperm contains all of the information needed to construct a new human being.
God is the designer of our very complex system of life on earth. It is instinctive in most animals to protect their babies. As dumb as a chicken is, even a chicken instinctively protects her eggs by sitting on them. I have watched the male betta fish build a bubble nest and carefully place the gathered eggs into that nest, and then protect them from those that would harm them.
Compiler’s note. Recently I helped my son move his tropical fish store to a new location. Just prior to the move, one of the mouth brooder cichlids, took her fry into her mouth and held them there until the day after the move, just to be sure they were safe.
Interestingly, the Snake with only a few exceptions does not guard her eggs. She deposits them and then is on her way. If you recall any of our previous studies, then you know that Jesus has removed the penalty of the Law, but the principles of the Law remain. We can extrapolate an applicable principle from this passage in Exodus 21:22-23, which makes the point very clear that God considers the unborn, a person, one whose life blood demands the penalty of a life for a life. "Now suppose two people are fighting, and in the process, they hurt a pregnant woman so her child is born prematurely. If no further harm results, then the person responsible must pay damages in the amount the woman's husband demands and the judges approve. [23] But if any harm results, then the offender must be punished according to the injury. If the result is death, the offender must be executed.[NLT] The good news, for a mother who might have already aborted a baby, is found in the mercy and forgiveness of Christ, who has already paid the penalty for that sin. When the would have been mother repents, seeking the baptism of the Spirit; God’s Spirit will begin to renew her mind and cause her new godly attitudes and formally rebellious mind to come into agreement. In the majority of cases where a mother chooses abortion, the pregnancy begins with sin. Let’s address fornication first. 2 Tim. 2:22 Speaks to abstinence: Run from anything that stimulates youthful lust. Follow anything that makes you want to do right. Pursue faith and love and peace, and enjoy the companionship of those who call on the Lord with pure hearts. [NLT]
In favor of the Abstinence argument; with the exception of one young lady, in the entire history of mankind on this earth, no woman has ever become pregnant without intercourse. (The new exception is noted: by In vitro fertilization.) Compiler’s notes: What is hidden in our society is that Planned Parenthood owns the exclusive rights to the distribution in the U.S. for the *abortion pill and owns many abortion mills. Do you think that they might have a vested interest in premarital sex? * Abortion Pill: Mifepristone and Misoprostol for Early Abortion ru 486)
Then of course there is adultery, but here the sin speaks for itself. Hebrews 13:4 Give honor to marriage, and remain faithful to one another in marriage. God will surely judge people who are immoral and those who commit adultery. [NLT] The pro-abort will be quick to employ empathy by bringing up the “rape” issue. Truthfully: I also have great compassion for the victim of such a violation of personal intrusion. Should she bare the baby? That is between the mother and her God. I do know that if she gets medical attention within the first 24 hours, conception is extremely unlikely. The other straw dog that is erected is that of the “life of the Mother”. In today’s United States, medical authorities tell us how extremely rare that situation is. Of course this came to the forefront with the illegal murder of Dr. Tiller. His greed is evident, since he killed late term babies for the flimsiest excuses. Perhaps this passage from Jeremiah 7:30-31 will make God’s attitude toward sacrificing a child for personal gain or status clear. "The people of Judah have sinned before my very eyes," says the Lord. "They have set up their abominable idols right in my own Temple, defiling it. [31] They have built the pagan shrines of Topheth in the valley of the son of Hinnom, where they sacrifice their little sons and daughters in the fire. I have never commanded such a horrible deed; it never even crossed my mind to command such a thing! [NLT] As our children are now being taught that self-control is out of their reach, we hand out birth control pills and condoms in schools and free planned parenthood guidance clinic’s , in expectation or anticipation of their failing. If we are unable to teach our children the moral principle of abstinence before marriage, as set forth by our God, then at least we should expose to them those who stand to gain financially by this new lack of moral fortitude. As parents and mentors we need to loudly address the new morality that inadvertently encourages a lack of self-control
by innate acceptance; as if fornication is an uncontrollable outcome of a personal relationship, the unavoidable result of the vivaciousness of youth. In truth the subtitle encouragement is simply influenced manipulation by those who stand to gain by the child’s lack of inhibition. Who are they in your community and school system? They are unmasked by their opposition to abstinence education. Compiler’s note: As I have already stated in the beginning of our dialog, God is all about free choice and the exercising our free-will, but our choices have consequences. Our opportunity to receive the gift of Jesus for our redemptive savior is a choice, just as much as receiving his gift of a new child. How do you feel personally, if someone you love, rejects a present or gift that you affectionately give to them, even if they don’t deserve it? Why should we expect God to feel any different? Through the gift of a child, God has given parents an opportunity, which in essence enables us to redeem our time in this world, by nurturing a person better than we know ourselves to be.
